Hi everyone, I am Chickasaw-Choctaw born in Oklahoma. My BA and MA degrees are from the State University of New York at Albany, New York with a major in Speech/ Language Pathology and Audiology.

I have been active in professional organizations over the years serving as President of the Capital Area Speech and Hearing Association, a regional association with 250+ members. I have served on many state committees and have functioned as liaison from these state organizations to the state legislature and other professional groups.

Since coming to the UA last year, I’ve served as Vice-President of the AISGSC and on the editorial board of Red Ink.

As Interim President, I am interested in doing my part to establish an energetic, participatory student organization, conduct an impartial election, and transition Council affairs to the newly elected Council. One of the great things about the students and faculty in the AIS graduate program is their ability to bond together as a supportive family. This contributes to making the Council effective as a representative government.

Thanks to the AIS students who gave me a vote of confidence last spring and approved this Interim Presidency.

"Hello everyone! My name is Mascha N. Gemein, and I am from the Rhineland in Germany. I did my Masters in Cultural Anthropology with a minor in Comparative Literature at the University of Bonn in 2006. I visited the American Indian Studies Program here in Tucson for one year in 2004/05, and am now back to receive my Ph.D. in AIS. My focus is on ethnology of the US Southwest and on
Native American Literature. I would love to learn to know you all, so we can support each other in our studies and also have a lot of fun."

Cheers,
Mascha
